i9media worked with Lumenlabs from the brand’s earliest stages until the brand’s highly attractive acquisition by R-Zero. 

From the very beginning of the relationship, i9media was deeply involved in just about every area of the brand’s operation and has been largely credited for its success. The scope of the work included marketing, IT, and operations. It began with the foundational work of setting up the brand’s building blocks, its software suite, and protocols. That infrastructure needed to meet the demands of a multi- regional and multi-lingual marketing operation, covering a highly technical and heavily regulated industry. Once the infrastructure was in place, i9media actively executed across all those areas and managed Lumenlabs’ global marketing efforts, rising above and sending the company to new heights. When i9media first partnered with Lumenlabs, the company was so new it didn’t even have a logo. There was virtually no operational plan or process in place, not to mention no digital plan. The company had one flagship product and that was about it. There was no website, no social media pages, no ad accounts, no email service provider, nothing. i9media took on this challenge and within a few short months had a best-in-class logo, built and designed a website, set up their entire email and business suite, secured their social media handles/accounts and hit the ground running. In just over 1 year Lumenlabs garnered the attention of industry giant R-Zero and was acquired just a few months later, largely due to the efforts and strategies put in place by the i9media team.

Before i9media, Lumenlabs had no website. All they had was a domain name and a tight turnaround timeline of just 2 weeks for the website to be delivered and operational. Premium quality assets and speed of execution were critical for the company’s position in the marketplace, in order to protect its intellectual property and gain awareness over competitors. Lumenlabs vetted several vendors, all of which failed on either quality, speed, or both – that is, all except i9media. i9media took on the challenge and delivered on time. Before i9media, there was no brand and no company publicly set up. The client had one main request: build a brand with a gravitas similar to those of the top biotech companies. With that directive, i9media ran a highly comprehensive discovery process to define the parameters of such a brand, including color schemes, typography, logo layouts and more. The brand package was presented and through a collaborative and reiterative process with the client, the brand was born. The Lumenlabs brand and its slogan, “Lighting the Way to a Healthier Life,” immediately gave the company a distinctive position in the marketplace that both informed and inspired, hinged on the technological breakthroughs that Lumenlabs was bringing to market.

Lead Generation

As a B2B business, Lumenlabs’ main source of revenue was generated by finding primarily commercial clients, from industrial hygienists and facility managers to HVAC installers and more. As noted previously, Lumenlabs had nothing set up when i9media came into the picture. As a startup, it’s essential for new businesses to generate leads as quickly and efficiently as possible, keeping CAC (customer acquisition costs) within check. Lumenlabs accomplished this thanks to i9media’s lead generation efforts. i9media set up the Lumenlabs website and optimized it with the intent of generating leads for sales conversions. Through website popups, contact forms, gated pages and coordinated ad campaigns, more than 700 high quality leads were generated in just 10 months.

As a startup, Lumenlabs had no advertising plan or strategies in place when i9media came onboard. i9media did a thorough discovery of target audiences, setup multiple advertising channels (Facebook, Instagram, Google, Youtube, LinkedIn), and built A/B narrative-based ad units. After receiving client sign off and going live with these campaigns, i9media consistently optimized performance and held meetings with Lumenlab’s executive team for updates and input. Over 10 months and on a very conservative budget, Lumenlabs received 370+ leads from these advertising campaigns.

i9media’s in-house team was the sole resource for creative and graphic design for the entirety of the Lumenlabs brand before the acquisition. When i9media got involved there were literally no assets, not even a logo. Lumenlabs needed a logo that was memorable, inspiring and powerful enough to leave a lasting impression. It needed to communicate advanced technology in its simplest form and drive the entire brand. i9media delivered. Once the logo was finalized, a brand style guide was created to help ensure brand consistency throughout all touch points. The i9media team went on to design all global branded assets that included brochures, spec sheets, user guides and more. Every creative asset the Lumenlabs brand had was done by the i9media team. And what’s more, i9media was in charge of designing these assets in various languages for different regions around the world.

When i9media first started working with Lumenlabs, its social media was nonexistent. No accounts were created and no social media handles had been secured for the brand. i9media stepped up to the plate and before creating any social handle it developed a social handle architecture to prepare the brand for scalability, both globally and regionally. With that as the guide, i9media created accounts across LinkedIn, Facebook, Youtube, Instagram and Twitter. Parallel to those efforts, i9media worked with our multi-regional office and partners to build a consistent and compliant social footprint in those markets, which included China, Sweden, South Africa, Singapore, and beyond. i9media handled all of Lumenlabs’ social media, which included highly technical language, and formulated its brand narrative. The copy was scientifically and technically sourced, photos and videos had the proper copyrights, and all that content was made available consistently across the various regions and languages. In just a few months, in an emerging industry and with a conservative startup budget, Lumenlabs’ global social presence had positioned the company as a market leader, dynamically generating leads and offering support, while also gathering more than 49,000 views on its Youtube channel.

Copywriting

As a startup, Lumenlabs faced an all too common challenge. It had limited resources and yet it was in dire need of copy for its marketing assets – and not just any copy. The copy had to be compliant on several fronts: technically, scientifically, legally and on brand. i9media built the team, protocols and libraries necessary to function as Lumenlabs’ copywriting platform. That operation constantly wrote new copy for a broad range of assets, from spec sheets and website to video scripts and beyond. To add all the more complexity to the operation, i9media ran multi-regional marketing, so it oversaw compliance across numerous countries. Media Production

Prior to i9media’s involvement, Lumenlabs had absolutely no media. Once stepping in, the i9media team set up and coordinated photo and video shoots, detailing everything from storyboarding, to creative direction, to writing video scripts, to drafting media releases for talent/ photographer/videographer and more. Just about every digital image and video that the brand used across its website, marketing materials, social media accounts, brochures and beyond was delivered by the i9media team.

Public Relations

Public Relations is crucial to increase brand awareness and social proof to attract prospect customers. i9media’s copywriters drew from the brand’s library and drafted three press releases for that very purpose. These press releases had to be scientifically, technically and legally compliant. Topics ranged from Far-UVC technology, Lumenlabs’ role in the Tokyo Olympics, and more. After receiving sign off, press releases were distributed via wires and local publicists, resulting in pickup by various publications, even including exclusive features on local papers. The press releases were featured in San Diego Entertainer Magazine, Benzinga, ChinaDaily and UV Reporter, among others.

Consulting

The Lumenlabs team relied heavily on the knowledge and expertise that i9media holds. Not only did i9media provide a comprehensive suite of marketing services for Lumenlabs but our team also worked closely with the brand on strategic business decisions, software purchases and more. As Lumenlabs’ agency of record, i9media vetted all prospect providers, vendor services and more so that the client didn’t have to. Furthermore, i9media set up all of Lumenlabs’ business protocols identifying how to manage and execute on various tasks.

Asset Managment

Before i9media, Lumenlabs not only had no digital asset management (DAM) platform, it had no assets. One of Lumenlab’s pressing challenges is that the DAM needed to work across the world, including China. Several widely used solutions in the US and EU do not work in China, not without a VPN and slow download speeds. To overcome that challenge, i9media setup Lumenlabs on Microsoft’s OneDrive, a DAM that works well across multiple regions, even China. From there, i9media built and organized these assets. Included in these assets were photos, videos, protocols, product info, website assets, brochures, marketing packages, user guides, spec sheets and more. Because of the organization and cloud access for all these files, handoff after the brand acquisition was seamless and easily manageable for both teams.

BACKEND SUPPORT & SETUP As mentioned previously, Lumenlabs had no systems in place when i9media got involved. So i9media setup the systems, integrated them, and created protocols for a nimble and effective operation. As a partner agency for various software solutions and with vast experience of systems integrations across multiple industries, i9media engineered the most optimal software suite for Lumenabs, creating work protocols and training the Lumenlabs team on it. A few highlights of some of the systems integration include setting Lumenlabs’ entire Microsoft Office Suite, integrating and syncing their website with leads forms, ad accounts and social media pages. All of these software integrations communicated with each other so that analytics and data offered business insights that set the brand up for success.
